METAMORPHO TRADING CARDS (PART 4)

We get to 1995 and this year DC goes all-chromium with the Skybox Power Chrome: DC Legends '95 trading card set. Does it sound like something big? Yes, it was, in fact it was a very advanced technology in trading card manufacturing for that time.

DC was ready to put on the market a trading card set worth to be spoken of for decades and they really achieved their goal since this is one of the most sought after by collectors DC sets and one of the most expensive. A sealed unopened box can easily command $70 plus shipping charges on ebay and you cannot get a single card for less than $2 plus shipping charges.

Besides the 150 basic set there were three levels of chasing cards. In the secondary market of today you cannot buy a master set (basic plus chasing cards) for less than $100 (if you are lucky).

What makes this set more valuable than the previous ones? The answer is simple: they were not mass produced. Steve Charendoff one of the executives of Skybox for the time explained: "this is no cookie-cutter card series".

It is very difficult to photograph or scan these cards to provide an image that resembles the original product since they are very light sensitive so scanning makes them appear darker than they really are. Not the big deal considering this set recycled previously published art.

Metamorpho was assigned card #11 and reproduces the cover of Justice League International #62 (March 1994). The artists who worked on the issue were Chuck Wojtkiewicz as penciller and Michael Oeming as inker (although there were two other inkers mentioned on the interior pages but only Oeming is credited on the cover).

The issue to which I referred above is precisely where Metamorpho debuts with his new look officially although his first appearance with this look was on the final page from the previous issue.

I am a purist on this sense and I will ever prefer the classic four colors look with which he debuted on the 60's but still this card is a nice collectible for all Metamorpho fans.
