It is 1993 and the comic collectors boom is on the peak, everyone is buying anything that claims to be a "collector's item" and trading cards were among those "valuable" assets. So with the coming of the new year DC released a second wave of trading cards called "DC Cosmic Teams" with a thematic based on the different super groups from the DC universe.
1993 was a good year for Metamorpho, besides his stint in the Justice League International/Europe he returned to his own series (although a 4-issue miniseries) in decades. His reputation as a member of the JLI/JLE was solid enough to make the book carry subplots about the element man so his place on this trading card set was more than earned.
The set was comprised of 150 cards for the basic set plus 6 chasing cards, a big number of cards for a set but for those days people did not skimp on paying whatever it took to get collectibles since they firmly believed their retirement was secured after they sell them 40 years later. It has been more than 20 years since those days and today you can easily get a complete basic set for less than $10, individual cards range from fifty cents to one dollar.
Metamorpho spotted in two places, one card for himself and one card as member of the Justice League International. Cards number 4, 5, 6 were assigned to the Justice League International, the three cards were a puzzle that formed a bigger picture, Metamorpho was on card 6 alongside Elongated Man.
Metamorpho's individual card was number 46 and the penciller for both cards was Ron Randall. Andy Elliot was in charge of the inking for the second year after his work on the previous set.
This time I don't have any complaint for the art since I really loved both cards, specially because they allow to see one of the best things about Metamorpho and it is the visual aspect of his look and the vivid colors that work so well on the pages of comic-books.
