LOOK AT THIS HORROR!

If I had lived by the 60's, I for sure would have subscribed to the Metamorpho series that run from 1965 to 1968, that would have been a no-brainer decision. How many Element Man fans had subscribed by those years? The picture belongs to a copy of Metamorpho (Vol. 1) #17, the last issue of the series to which someone subscribed and received via postal service.

This was the way how comics were delivered to subscribers in the 60's, folded inside a standard #10 envelope for it was a convenient and cost effective shipping way. Imagine all those kids, teenagers, ladies and gentlemen receiving their beloved comics in this condition. What a horror!

The crease left by folding comics like this is known by comic dealers as the "subscription crease", they stumble upon many times with them when grading comics from this era. In those years comics were not collectible items as today, but just disposable entertainment so kids just took away the wrapper and enjoyed their comic-books, tough this is precisely what has created a collectors niche for comics still on their subscription wrappers since they are rare nowadays.

Do you think horror stories from people receiving their subscription comics folded in half stayed in the past as remembrances of an age gone forever? If you think so, rethink it, because these horror stories are still happening, an example here.
